Saturn in Pisces

Saturn entered Pisces on 8th March, 2023 at 0:36am AEDT (GMT 7th at 1:36pm) and will remain in this mutable water sign until February 2026.

Saturn spends about 3 years in each sign and its journey around the Sun takes approximately 29.5 years, so we won’t experience Saturn in Pisces again until January 2053.

Previously Saturn has felt very much at home in Capricorn and Aquarius, as it moved quite comfortably through the signs of its rulership. Now, the experience will be very different as if it’s being cast out into the beyond where nothing is certain and everything is possible.

Saturn is “the great teacher” who makes us stop, sit down, shut up, take notice and stay in that spot until we get it! Saturn is the firm hand on our shoulder that will guide us through the hard lessons in life. Saturn will provide the persistence, control and focus required to make it over the hurdles or through the roadblocks that we may otherwise choose to avoid. Saturn invites us to take responsibility for our actions, to learn from our mistakes so we can move forward with greater understanding of what it takes, and what it has taken, to be who we are. Wisdom is earned through our participation in life and how we choose to integrate the knowledge of our experiences.

Through Saturn we experience boundaries – those we establish ourselves to define and protect; and those of others that restrict and obstruct. Saturn can help us recognize the strength of our own boundaries. Do they need a little more mortar to hold firm? Can they be re-positioned or adjusted? Are they flexible enough to allow for extension and growth?

I also think of Saturn as a cold energy that can feel restrictive. Especially when it comes to health, it can be the stiffness or arthritic pain that hinders our movement and flow.

When Saturn comes into contact with Pisces, there can be some confusion around how these two will manage in each other’s company. Here the conservative, authoritative teacher is faced with the student who is the dreamer, the creative, the wanderer. It’d be like trying to put string around water. But, on the other hand, Saturn’s firm hand may provide the structure and support that Pisces needs to bring dreams into reality and give form to imaginative processes.

In a world where rules and regulations are put in place to keep us in orderly control, Saturn in Pisces may bring new ideologies to the table. The existing structures and authoritative influences in our lives may no longer contain the strength, safety or reliability that they once did. The blinkers may need to come off and what may be revealed are deceptive agendas, upsetting to our reality.

Personally, if you were born with Saturn in Pisces, you will experience a Saturn return during this period. The first comes around your 30th birthday, the second usually before your 60th. The Saturn Return is a significant time in life and vital to your maturation process.

The first Saturn Return is a consolidation of all you have learnt and experienced up to this point in your life. Like having a kit bag filled with all that has been imprinted upon you - from childhood, schooling, family life, social interactions, conditioning, the opinions and methodologies of others and so forth.  Now Saturn gives you permission to empty all the contents of this kit bag out on the floor in front of you and take the time to determine what has served you and what has burdened you. You then get to choose what you want to pick and put back in the kit bag and what you want to leave behind for the continuation of your life’s journey.

The second Saturn Return is a point where you can once again define how you will choose to live your life moving forward. At this age you have usually done all that has been required of you, held responsibility for yourself and others, experienced many highs and lows and had to handle all that life has thrown at you. Now is your time! Self-care and self-actualization is high on the agenda. How would life look if you chose to become your main priority? What choices could you, would you, should you make from this point forward? What have you always wanted to do, wanted to pursue? Will you meet this opportunity to “let go” with resistance and regret or with excitement and aspiration? It’s your choice, your life!
