full moon in capricorn
21st July 2024 @ 8:17pm Melbourne, 11:17am London, 3:17am San Francisco
Full Moon energy is bright and expansive. It’s a time when the Sun and the Moon are positioned in opposing Zodiac signs. With the Moon situated on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, there is a lot of light from the sky, making visibility at night easy.
With these luminaries in opposition, an energetic tension is created and the pull between them effects not only the waters of the Earth but also the waters within our body. The tides are high, we can experience changes in our blood pressure and our sleep patterns can be disrupted. It is not recommended to have an operation at the time of a full moon as there can be more chance of haemorrhaging.
There has always been so much mystery and superstition around the phases of the Moon but especially when it is fully illuminated in the sky. Rituals are performed to draw down the power of the Moon and to honour the Moon as Goddess.
The Moon is now at the acme of the 29.5 day cycle which began when the Moon was in Cancer earlier this month, activating the Cancer-Capricorn axis. From here the Moon will begin to wane through the Disseminating, Last Quarter, and Balsamic phases.
The Moon is not so comfortable in Capricorn, its sign of detriment. The lunar energy can have some difficulty in expressing its true nature resulting in another type of tension - reluctant co-operation. Any intentions that were set at the beginning of this Moon cycle may be challenged and require last minute adjustment before the integration process can begin. At the beginning of this cycle expectations were set, the work was done with the waxing lunar energy and now it’s time to take responsibility for what has been set in motion.
At the start of the month, if your intention opened a door to an emotionally charged issue that you may have previously chosen to ignore or hide, this Full Moon in Capricorn can now swing the door wide open, inviting you to walk through to the other side. You now get to decide whether you want this door is to remain open or have it closed completely.
If you haven’t paid much attention to this cycle and want to enjoy the Full Moon in Capricorn for what it offers independently, take note of where Capricorn appears in your chart and which planets/points occupy this space. This is where this Cardinal Earth energy is fully focused..
With the Full Moon in Capricorn your energy may feel a little less erratic than it usually would under a full moon, making it easier to stabilise your emotions and reactive tendencies. Capricorn energy is focused and driven towards achieving successful outcomes. This Full Moon may therefore illuminate a clear direction for you that isn’t at risk of being sabotaged by emotions or fears. Capricorn has the wisdom and maturity to look beyond petty interference and remain focused on the big picture.
Pluto’s aspect to the Moon may still threaten to destabilise your feelings and the strength of your convictions for a couple of days. But the Moon does move along quick enough so any doubts that may arise could just be a bump in the road. There’s enough cardinal earth in this Moon placement to maintain momentum and keep you on track.
The Full Moon is an excellent time to cleanse, purify and charge your crystals; take a luxurious bath (even better if it can be outside under the moonlight); burn incense and oils; journal any thoughts or reflections surrounding the intention set at the first stage of this lunar cycle.
