sun in libra

22nd September @ 10:44pm Melbourne, 1:44pm London, 5:44am San Francisco

This is the time of year when the Sun will transition across the equator from the northern hemisphere into the southern hemisphere. For a few days the Sun will appear directly above the equator and the hours of darkness and light will be very nearly the same all over the globe.

This equinoctial point coincides with the Sun moving into the Cardinal Air sign of Libra bringing focus to relationship, diplomacy, balance and harmony. Represented by the scales of justice and equality with a directive towards fairness and resolution, the time is ripe to allow space for another point of view. Whatever house Libra rules in your natal chart will highlight where you may need to be a little more understanding; where you may need to listen and not just hear; where you may need to be willing to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes.

With the Sun bringing the heat into Libra this month, our most committed relationships could be where a lot of energy is focused. Libra is ruled by Venus, so love, respect and compassion are foundational to the success of any relationship. Being willing to compromise - knowing when to push up against each other and when to stand back to allow the other person to grow, can help a relationship endure the challenge of inevitable change.

Libra can also represent ambiguity and indecision so be careful not to send out or pick up on mixed messages. It’s important to say what you mean and mean what you say. Make sure your actions align with your intentions and seek clarity if need be, before making any judgements or absolute opinions.

Those born with their Sun in Libra can usually get along with most people and have the ability to subtly get what they want using charm and relatability. They feel at ease in the company of others and find contentment in committed relationships. Librans look to mediate and debate rather than argue. They thrive in environments that are peaceful rather than chaotic and with those who are willing to co-operate rather than disrupt.

The Libran mind is not limited to the obvious and will seek alternate sources and opinions to satisfy their logic before making decisions. The tendency to always pursue other ideas and resources can get them into trouble as they themselves may appear ambiguous and ingenuous. It may seem that they have no opinion of their own due to their capacity to see another side, another truth, another methodology. They do love a good discussion and can be hard to keep up with by agreeing with you one minute then disagreeing the next – even if it is just for the thrill of it. Librans are always up for a mindful challenge, so long as it stays within the realm of civility.

No matter how cordial they appear, their active minds don’t always know when to shut off leading to internalized feelings of anxiety and confusion. Their struggle for equilibrium is real. It can take a lot of work for scales to stabilize. Just like trying to stand in the middle of a seesaw, it doesn’t take much for one end to go down and the other go up. There is of course that exhilarating moment when all is in perfect balance, but it’s the up and down that can be exhausting. Librans can go to extremes and find themselves sitting at either end of the see-saw which can be destabilizing for them and those around them. They can become restless and quarrelsome if dissatisfaction creeps in.

Librans can indulge in excesses but have an innate sense of when they’ve reached their limit and are able to pull themselves back to a more manageable position before their health is impacted too seriously. They know when to work and when to rest, when to push hard and when to pull back. Those born with their Sun in Libra are the forever diplomat and advocate for harmony and co-operation.
