new moon solar eclipse in libra

3 October 2024 @4:47am Melbourne; 2nd October @ 7:47pm London, 11:47am San Francisco

This new moon in Libra coincides with a South Node Annular Solar Eclipse. The darkness of the night sky will be highlighted by a narrow ring of light around the dark moon due to the distance of the moon from the earth at this time. This “ring of fire” will be visible mostly in South America and parts of the Pacific.

Each month during the new phase of the moon it’s usually a good time to set intentions, start something new or begin a new practice. The tone is usually quiet and reserved where thoughts and plans can come together in peace without the glare of any distractions.

The Moon in Libra will offer a chance to find calm and seek a more balanced reactive state of mind. We can decide to engage in harmonious practices moving forward that require delicate and artistic ways of being. We can use our breath to ease any internal struggles that may threaten to destabilise our equilibrium as we negotiate with ourselves what our intentions might be, and what we may be required to do as we work through them this month.

“Finding calm amongst the chaos” could be the phrase we may wish to hold onto at the time of this new moon/eclipse, being the final Libra eclipse of the Libra/Aries series.

The Solar Eclipse adds another energetic dimension, impacting the intentions we set. Usually somewhat disruptive and heralding in a time to let things go, this South Node Solar Eclipse may make it difficult to decide where or how to direct our energy around what or who needs to go in order to set a new course or start something new for ourselves. Indecision leads to imbalance which can feel like standing at the centre of a seesaw doing everything we canto keep it level and stop the ends from touching the ground. It’s a lot of energy going nowhere.

Uranus Rx brings with it a buildup of erratic energy and the tension it creates feels like being in an ejector seat with one finger on the button.  Uranus Rx is sesquiquadrate to this lunar configuration and might bring with it that final surge of energy needed to push us off the seesaw. Once back on solid ground we can make clearer decisions from a less subjective position to not only break down the old but also to break in the new.

The last Libra/Aries eclipse series lasted for about three years, beginning 11 years ago. So, this is a good time to reflect on what was bought to light during that period, highlighting the Libra/Aries houses of your chart and activating any planets within. During this eclipse there is an opportunity to put some things to rest, to finally have some closure around what you’ve been working through this past decade or so.

Venus rules this eclipse and currently forms a grand trine with Saturn Rx and Mars. This benefic configuration in water signs can support a harmonious outcome as it allows space for emotional release as we reflect upon the actions we’ve taken and the life lessons that have come about as a result.

Mercury is also conjunct the Sun/Moon reminding us to lighten up and not get too attached to any set outcomes. Trust is letting go of control. Freedom comes from the release.
