Mars conjunct uranus

Uranus heralds the unexpected through change and disruption. What sets Uranian energy apart is a restlessness that can be difficult to temper. When this energy finds release, it feels erratic and without clear direction.  The sudden, jolting impact can lead to feelings of bewilderment and paralysis until such time as we can find our feet again. Like a lightning bolt, its force is sudden and unpredictable.

This isn’t necessarily negative, and change is not always a bad thing. Uranus can create a shift in perspective or circumstance that leads to new and innovative opportunities. Even though the changes can be sudden, erratic and feel a little scary, how we respond is still a choice. Uranus reminds us that experiencing change is like riding a rollercoaster. We can either scream, resist and hate the whole experience or adjust in our seat and hang on to ride through all the bumps and turns. We might even feel invigorated once things settle back down again.

Uranus understands the need for freedom and supports rebellious actions that are necessary to stand up against injustice and oppression.

Mars is all about movement, action and desire. Mars rules the adrenal glands so understands the fight or flight response. Mars’ energy must be in constant motion to remain healthy. Aggression and anger can be the biproduct of an unfulfilled, unhappy or misdirected Martian “red” energy. Mars’ assertive and passionate tendencies get things moving and can maintain momentum through obstacles and challenges. Sometimes it can be hard to know when to apply the brakes.

When these two planets meet in transit every 2 years or so the result can be quite explosive, leaving us feeling a little blind-sided if not ready for it.

Whatever Uranus has been brewing or conjuring will get a surge of fiery energy to propel it up and out creating a shift that can feel unstable, unpredictable and a little dangerous. Mars has the ability to find purpose to Uranian intention and steer it in the right direction, but it will take a lot of focus and willpower to keep it on track.

Mars/Uranus is impatient so it’s a time to take care and try to not get ahead of ourselves. Feelings of restlessness and annoyance may surface so it’s important to avoid lashing out unnecessarily. We can be more accident prone during this period so remember to slow down to avoid accidents and injury.

To give examples of how this Mars/Uranus conjunction can influence events (somewhat differently) I’ll take a brief look at a couple that have occurred leading up to and during this transit – the release of Julian Assange and the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Both have transiting Uranus square their natal Mars

On 26th June 2024 at 7:30pm Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks arrived home, finally touching down on Australian soil after years of confinement and imprisonment. His release was the result of agreeing to a plea deal with US prosecutors under the Espionage Act for the release of US intelligence information back in 2010.

His natal chart shows Jupiter (his chart ruler) conjunct his Ascendant and Neptune in the twelfth house of confinement, self-undoing and secret enemies. This placement is indicative of someone with a broad belief system, opportunistic mindset, shrewd perception and a philosophy that anything is possible.  As an editor, publisher and activist he was prepared to investigate and expose injustices at a level that created shockwaves around the world, creating enemies for himself in very high places.

At the time of his release, transiting Mars was approaching its conjunction with Uranus. Uranus opposed his Jupiter/Neptune, creating a tension which would give birth to a new set of circumstances by breaking up existing conditions. Uranus square his natal Mars in his fourth house of home/family helped clear a path of any last minute obstacles threatening to get in the way of him making it home.  His release seemed to come out of the blue but was in fact years of persistent and unwavering work and effort behind the scenes by his family and supporters.

On 13th July 2024 at 6:11pm Donald Trump was shot in an attempted assassination. The Mars/Uranus conjunction was placed in his tenth house of career, public persona and visibility. At the time he was speaking at a rally, attended by a large crowd and was the focus of public attention.

Mars/Uranus was conjunct his Midheaven which is the midpoint of this transiting planetary alignment. Reinhold Ebertin quotes this position as “putting the pistol to someone’s head”, “the execution of drastic and violent measure, injury, accident, operation”.

Trump’s natal Mars is conjunct his Ascendant in Leo which can indicate a large personality who craves the spotlight, who can be arrogant and who asserts themselves dramatically. He is a polarizing individual who can arouse anger, disbelief and despair from those who oppose his political views and actions but also incite a passionate, loyal and sometimes violent group of supporters.

The transiting Mars/Uranus is square his natal Mars and Ascendant which can indicate sudden, violent action against an individual or unexpected harm to their physical body.

The Mars/Uranus conjunction in Taurus becomes exact on 15th July 2024 @ 11:05pm Melbourne, 2:05pm London, 6:05am San Francisco.

From now until the end of July, check to see which house(s) of your Natal chart will be impacted along with any planets or points in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius
